Mission: M8: The Kzinti War!!!!
Location: Kzinti held space

[USS Achilles - Ready Room]

All three sections of the Achilles had made it and the ship had been reintegrated into one vessel again. Captain Kretorg had invited the crew to his vessel for a celebration of their victory. A proper Klingon celebrate the successful recovery of their crew and the capturing of the Kzinti vessel. He was trying to get through his own obligation so that he could attend, and had allowed those crew not on duty to beam over.

He looked at the officers assembled (XO, 2XO, CENG), "Dr. Oakheart have you managed to get a complete damage assessment?"

"Most of the consoles that blew out have been repaired or replaced, however the EPS conduits on the Saucer Section took serious damage...power was rerouted but 30% of the mains are out. The independent shield generators for both stardrive sections can only maintain a 73% shield strength. Two of the torpedo launchers are damaged. Most of our ablative armor has been burned away and pylon 3 is again in bad shape. If we continue to get into large scale engagements I cannot guarantee the pylon's integrity...we could lose the nacelle all together, and to top it off, I lost 3 engineers in the last engagement." (Written for Sascha's player by Da`nal)

Da`nal nodded, turning to his XO. "What were our losses as far as personnel?"

This was news she didn't look forward to announce. She looked at her padd as if she wished the figure would change if she stared at it. "Eighteen crew had been injured and are in sickbay, three's injuries are serious. Twenty three more had sustained light injuries and had been cleared for light duty. We did loose two people in an explosion on deck nine. They were Petty Officer Travek Sural from Bajor and crewman Bot from Bolarus IX. Ensign Tumek from Vulcan was also killed in the explosion," Ciara reported. "I have already arranged for the memorials for them according to their customs and have prepared information on their lives and work for letters for their families. I have done drafts for that as well, it is here," she concluded and handed a padd to him.

Da`nal took the padd and set it aside. "Your recommendation for the new chief of security?"

Ciara pursed her lips, he was not going to like this either. "Ensign Jonas Taylor," she said handing a PADD with his file to him.

Da`nal thought she had lost her mind. "AN Ensign...in charge of Securtiy..."

"He is the best we have now," she said. "We are not exactly in the position to ask Starfleet to send us a replacement. He has the highest rank in Security now," she explained.

Da`nal shook his head. She was right in that they was no chance of new crew until they return...but an Ensign. He was tempted to have on of the senior officers double up on their duties when the chime to the door sounded. He took in the information from his officers. Looking to Dr. Oakheart, "Make Pylon 3 your top priority. Is there anything else?"

He watched as the two shook their head. "Very well. Doctor, I won't keep you any longer. Commander, remain for a moment."

Caira nodded and walked over to the replicator to get some coffee, something she had given up, but needed again.

While the doors was open as the Doctor left Da`nal called for whoever it was that had rang the chime earlier. "Come!"

Ensign Jonas Taylor had heard the Captain call for him to enter the ready room as he saw the Doctor leave. He straightened his uniform and walked into the ready room.

"Ensign Jonas Taylor reporting as ordered." Barked the Ensign hoping to create a very positive first impression on both the Captain and the XO as this is the first time he had met either of them before.

Ciara smiled to acknowledge him. ~He is so young....~

Da`nal looked over the Ensign and stood. "This is no to time for bravado. So you are the 'senior' officer in security now. My new XO has recommended that I appoint you as the ships Chief of Security."

Ciara gave the young man a look that said, "I believe you can do it, but don't dare to disappoint me...."

Da'nal followed up her comment with one of his own. "What makes you think you’re ready for such a posting?"

"Captain, I understand both you and the XO have reservations about a young Ensign being in charge of Security and Tactical on such a prestigious ship such as this, but we don’t have a choice and needs must and that currently means I have no choice but to step up to the plate and prove that I am the best on this ship at my job, and after all its what I have trained for. I promise you both that I won’t let either of you, the ship or the crew down in doing my duties as Chief Security and Tactical officer. I will give you everything I have for the crew even if it means my life to protect the Federation and its citizens."

Da'nal found the young officers enthusiasm appealing. His response was a combination confidence as he stood his ground and what sounded like a recruitment speech. He still didn't like the idea of such a low ranking officer in charge of such a critical department. However Ciara was right...they had no choice. On the upside he did get good first impression. "Very well. Computer update Ensign Taylor's record to show his appointment as the ship's Chief Security and Tactical Officer. Alter his accesses accordingly. Both effective immediately."

Ciara smiled and offered her hand. "Congratulations, Ensign, if you need anything, just let me know, " she said.

"Thank You Captain, XO. Please may I have all scans of the Kzinti ships forwarded to my terminal, I think I may have a way to get past their shields quicker and a way to boost ours which might mean hanging in a fire fight that extra few minutes." explains the Ensign eager to get to work right away to prove he was right to be given this posting.

Da`nal looked to his XO then to the Ensign. "You are a department head. You have full access."

[Kzinti Vessel - KBS Bloodlust]

While his shipmates enjoyed a well deserved celebration on the VaQbach Charg remained pouring through the Kzinti computer. The information he had already accessed had been standard data for any ship...manifest, crew roster, patrol orders, ect. However there were a few records that had been highly encoded and he was determined to break the Kzinti code and access those records.

"You are all alone here...." X'ae said as she approached her husband slipping her arms around his waist. He was focused on what he had to do, so she understood that Vulcan logic of his thinking, but she still missed him. There were only a few people left on the Bloodlust, but on the bridge it was only Charg.

He leaned back into her as his decryption algorithm worked on the Kzinti codes. He still had yet to get to sickbay for his wounds but had managed clean himself up. One thing was for certain was that he was going to have an impressive set scars across the side of his face. It would take some time to decode the command files so he turned to face her and he answered her question. "...not anymore."

A small smile appeared on her lips and she circled her one arm around his neck. With her other hand she traced the scars on his face. She knew that he would want to keep some of them as a memorial of the battle. Then she locked her hands behind his neck. "I am glad we are here... together...safe... " she said softly, as she kissed him, first tentatively then growing in intensity.

As he took her in his arms, not yet knowing exactly what she had been through, their link flared. He had been close to doing exactly what Kronyx had done and if it hadn’t been the fact the that he had a passenger in his shuttle and his Vulcan training. He very well could have been in the cell with the former crewmate.

~I am glad you didn't....I can't lose you....~ she thought, holding him tighter and burying her face in his chest. While the algorithm deciphered the Kzinti codes, they enjoyed their link and the physical intimacy they had missed. Both knew that their lives could change in a split second, never taking a moment they have together for granted. They lived in the moment and took full advantage of this one.

[Sickbay IKS VaQbach]

Sara, had nothing to call her own. All she had as she sat next to the bed was her cousin, Bel'a'Tar and the child within her and the medical garments that covered her body. She also, had Bel's mate, but he was currently on life support down in the brig of the VaQbach. The Andorian Klingon was looking down at a data pad, softly reading aloud to kept Bel company after her surgery to remove an Kzinti controlling device, that was implanted in her skull.

Dez returned from the 'party' to check on her patients. That was one thing she didn't get about klingons; they were at war, in enemy territory, and they were throwing a party. She stepped up to the new has on the ship and checked her monitor. "Well you are looking much better, how are you feeling?"

Sara looked up from her data pad to Dez and gave her a smile "Thank you doctor and I don't feel like I've been ran over by a semi-truck, so I guess, I felt better. How about you?"

"Other than deal with a ship full of bull headed Klingons, I'm doing ok."

Sara laughed "Count your blessing that none of them head butted up, for it hurts like hell"

"Well given the festivities currently taking place. I think their heads are going to be hurting in the morning. You're injuries are healing well so you are free to go."

"So," she smiled "Am I fit for duty?"

Dez shook her head. "Two problems there. One you're not a member of this crew. Plus with you being a Starfleet officer it will probably be up to the Captain of the Achilles as two what happens to you. I'm sure he's going to want to get your perspective on what happened. Second, because of what took place on the Kzinti ship I would have you schedule for a full psychological review, but that's not my call.

"Captain Kretorg is down on deck 11 at the party. I can let you go talk to him; with any luck you might run into the other Captain as well."

"Wonderful" sounding excited "But there is only one problem, Dez"

"Oh?"

"I need a uniform?" she stated "I just can't walk down to a party wearing only hospital gown."

Glad to see that she was in good spirits Dez played along. "What, you don't want to try start a new fashion trend? I heard the medical garb used to be the thing," she said with a smile. "There is a replicator in my office, just seal the door and you can change there."

Sara laughed as she rose to her feet to head to Dez's office "It might be a new trend indeed, but, I would show it off with all those drunken warrior's out there."
