1,586 words; about a 8 minute read
Mission:
M2: Aggressive Negotiations
Location: USS Freedom / Vrelnec
Timeline: Current
OLD:
Oh! she thought, her eye catching the glint of Opaka's commbadge in Nniol's hand; he didn't know - the tiniest difference in technology - their own devices contained an element linking the device to the identity signal of the individual to which it was issued; a precaution of the paranoid preventing it from functioning if used by another ... but a Federation device ...
Though it pained her to do so, Isha chuckled softly to herself; the Elements were playing games again.
"I'm beginning to grow bored with you, Klingon," Nniol said banging his hand on the arm of his chair, the comm badge flat beneath his palm. "You have two minutes. Leave or we will destroy you."
New:
Mari's brow furrowed and she looked at the commander questioningly, uncertain of what he had planned but ready to do what was needed even as she gave a slight, though hesitant, nod.
Da`nal shook his head, he was tired of the arrogant dog. "After you...Energize!"
T'Pal had done the necessary preparations to receive the Romulan prisoner and was waiting with a security team in Transporter room 4 on deck 8 where the brig was. When the surprised Romulan materialized, he was welcomed by three phazers trained on him, including a containment fiield to prevent him from transporting back to the Romulan ship while the Freedom's shields were still down. "We got him," T'Pal informed Da'nal, tapping her comm badge
[Vrelnec]
Isha wondered if her own expression, when she had been transported from DS5 looked anything like the shimmering mask of realisation and abject horror that was now fixed on Nniol's face. He tried to hurl the badge away, but the signal lock had already taken effect.
It was the one eventuality that Nniol had not planned for. It was inconceivable, if not a little ironic. The road to glory was pitted but those with sense always had a way to emerge unscathed from those pits and he was no exception. Regardless of the truth or otherwise of what Isha had claimed the government of the emprie would not sit by when someone such as he was being held; Ruwon Tahn would see to that, as, he hoped would his nephew
[Freedom]
Da'nal watched with satisfation as a thorn in his Houses side was now in his hands. However he kept his attention on the view screen. "Ens. Opaka, do you and the Ambassador require any assistance?"
"Thanks, commander, but I think we can find a medic on board for the time being." Jo'el said helpfully. "Thanks for catching my signal."
"No Problem. Let us know when you are ready to proceed and we will escort you back to the station. And see if the Ambassador would be agreable to releasing thoe logs I requested earlier. Freedom out."
Turning and looking down at Rodriguez. "Good thing you can read lips. Care to join me while we pay a visit to our guest?"
"Si, it would be my pleasure," Mari responded with a nod.
Stepping towards the turbo lift. "Mr. Silonez, would you care to join us?"
Silonez looked up "Gladly Captain"
"Excellent. Lt. Dehavilland, you have the bridge."
"Aye, sir, I have the Bridge." CJ replied, spinning out of his chair at the CoNN station and crossing the Bridge towards the Command station.
[Transporter room - USS Freedom]
But it all took just seconds. The first thing that was clear to him was that Nniol was no longer on the Vrelnec; that yet again that susse-thrai had won.
It did not take long for him to get his bearings. He peered at the woman before his lip twisted and he turned away, "What in the Element's name are you supposed to be?" he asked, "I knew that the yyaio were depraved but I never thought they'd cavort with animals."
T'Pal's eyes glittered with disgust as she watched him coldly. "You might not know this, but walls are inanimate, they don't talk back," she said as he faced it when he spoke. "And no, we don't cavort with animals, we keep them contained." She turned her head to the security officers. "Take this Ha'DIbaH [animal] to his cage."
"Then take care not to invest in a looking glass. You'll be in for a shock. Typical Vulcan sense of humour though, I see."
"And gag him...." T'Pal said coldly to no officer in particular, ignoring the comment. "It seems the animal is speaking," she said. Once she confirmed with ops that the shields were up again to prevent transport, she deactivated the containment field, motioning for the Romulan to step off the pad.
"Civilised too," Nniol smirked. "I'd almost think those were words you were using."
The security team guided the prisoner in between them and started towards the brig, T"Pal following closely behind. Watching his back, the thought of killing him was very alluring. The hand that was not holding the weapon, opened and closed slowly. It wouldn't even be a very difficult hit, she thought to herself. It would be a bonus if she had time, then she could kill him slowly......
The officer walking next to her must have seen the thoughts in his chief's eyes and caught her eyes. "Not worth it, Lieutenant.." he said to her, but shared her sentiment.
She sighed and pursed her lips ending in a small tight-lipped smirk. "I know... too many reports afterwards... Perhaps we could play ball with it later... you know, throw a ball or stick and then it brings it back," she said as they entered the brig, where the brig officer awaited them.
"Ah!" Nniol said to no-one in particular, "of course the real trouble with cross-breeds is that unless one is very careful they so often exhibit the worst characteristics of both species. Should I be wary of steps and doors and airlocks do you think. It would be very embarrassing for the federation if I were to have an accident before I speak with legal counsel."
Stepping into the Brig with Rodriguez and Silonez in tow as the containment field went up. "Legal counsel?" He stood silently for a brief moment, then tapped his comm badge. "Lt. Elek, report to the Brig." Closing the channel he turned to their guest. "There, our Diplomatic officer will see that your RIGHTS are protected. "
"Very wise," Nniol observed, "We wouldn't want to cause an 'incident' now, would we."
It wasn't long before Elek was up to speed and stepping into the brig. Nodding to the officers inside, he said, "I understand some legal counsel is called for?" His voice was calm and neutral, although he intensely disliked what he had to do.
T'pal nodded to Nniol, and Elek looked round. "Indeed," he said simply. Stepping closer to the forcefield, he continued; "I am the chief diplomatic officer aboard the Freedom. I will, of course, brief you on your full legal rights. Shall we begin?"
He quirked an eyebrow at the others, to indicate that he didn't mind being left alone with Nniol. As Rodriquez turned to leave, Elek whispered, "I get all the good jobs."
Mari smirked and gave the counselor and diplomat a sly wink before departing.
Motioning to his officers and nodding to the door. Once out in the corridor. "T'Pal, Silonez, see what informtion you can get from him, he's not smart enough to have organized this himself. I want to know who's pulling his strings." Turning to Rodriguez, "I want you to observe and direct, if needed, the interrogation from behind the scenes. Given my House's...and my personal history, it would probably be best if I distance myself from the proceedings."
"It'll be easier to treat and charge him as a terrorist, it gives us more wiggle room in the interrogation and how we can question him, and T'pal, if you're trained in vulcan mind meld techniques I can arrange for him to be restrained, I'm not wasting time with a circular interrogation." Silonez was suddenly loathing the idea of having to work with t'pal, he'd have to talk to the captain about the communique from Captain Kellenger later.
"I am trainied to do a mind meld," T'Pal informed them. "However, it will not be legal and the information gained could not be used in a court of law," she stated. "He doesn't know that, though, and of course, a forced mind meld can also be extremely painful, and dangerous to both participants," she added. "Perhaps we could use it to entice him to give up information."
"That is an extremely appealing option. I believe we may just do that. You agree, then, that it would be potentially beneficial, Sir?" Mari asked.
"Agreed. You can threaten a mind meld. However, I doubt he will be intimidated by it. As a meld would be a violation of his rights, but if he has no memory of the incident...." He added trailing off. Turning to his exec. "I will leave it in your hands then. If I'm needed I will be in sick bay. I want to see how bad we were hurt." With that Da`nal left the assembled officer to handle the matter.
