Another new comer

Posted on 08 Sep 2010 @ 9:41pm by Commodore Da`nal of the House of Varal

1,085 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: M6: Blood of the Innocent
Location: Ready room
Timeline: Current

Now that the ship was on its way and the Investigation was in full swing he could get caught up on a few things. There had been other arrival that had come aboard from the Southerner that he had yet to meet. So he once again be gan reviewing the files on his new crew members.

Next on his list was Ensign Aiona - Infiltration stecialist.

~Interesting..~ Da`nal thought to himself. As he read his head dropped slightly. "What is it with all these Betazoids...." Even as he wondered what Starfleet was up to he continued to read her file. To say that she had had a colorful career was an understatement.

Much of her record was either classified or derogatory...he made a mental note to have Silonez get him the full story when he got back from his assignment.

Tapping his commbadge he called for this new member of his crew. =^= Ensign Aiona, report to the Captain's ready room immediately. =^= Ayren the children were probably already waiting on him, but what could he do....the burdens of command and all.

Ensign Crystal Aiona looked down at her half-eaten bowl of cereal. ~Immediately is probably code for soon~ she thought to herself, bringing another spoonful to her mouth. She chewed a moment, recalling the terrible relationship she had with her previous CO and, thinking better of it, got up to respond to her new captain's request.

As the chime sounded he deactivated teh monitor and as it sank back into teh desktop he called his visitor to enter. "Come"

Aiona sloped into the room, her eyes making a quick sweep of the new environment. She had been trained to see every detail in a place, to be ready to create an advantage if she needed one. Even in friendly territory, this was a difficult habit to let go of. Though she was always ready for action, she was practiced in the performance art of seeming to be utterly uninterested in her surroundings. Only the systematic scan her eyes performed could give her away, but then, only to the most keen observer.

She leaned nonchalantly against the bulk head, pretending that she wasn't panicking inside. "You rang?"

Before the captain said a word she knew he'd read her service report. He would have questions, questions she couldn't answer.

Her manner of entry into his ready room didn't match her actions her eyes had swept the room instantly and though she tried to conceal it she was ready for action. Indicating the chair opposite him he spoke with a slight grin. "Nooo - I beleive it was you that rang. You can relax Ensign...I didn't call you hear to bite your head off. At least not this time"

Aiona laughed slightly, one side of her mouth turning up in her usual half-grin. She liked Klingons. This might not be a bad assignment after all. "Best if the biting remains minimal." She looked at the chair the captain was motioning towards and added, "I'm exactly the chair-type. And as far as relaxing, well, last time I was on a Starfleet ship I had a dozen officers hunting me through the aft Jeffrey's Tube, so, you know, the relaxing thing is going to take a while."

He took notice of her choice to remain standing...~so be it~, he thought. "Yes I read your file, what wasn't sealed that is. Seems you had some difficulties with your previous Senior Officers and even previous Captains. Care to share your side of the story?"

Aiona leaned against the wall and looked away, and though she still smiled, it was obvious how uncomfortable she was. "Sorry, sir. What you've read is all I can tell you. As for Admiral Paris, he was never exactly my commanding officer, just got in the way during my last mission. We don't get along on a deep, personal level. I'm afraid you'll just have to take my word that I was always following orders; it's just that sometimes those orders came from beyond my assigned star ship. My professional references are all bunk, but I can get you some personal ones if you're having doubts." She swept the room again, and kept her back to the wall.

Getting more than he had expected he continued. "Well that begs the question. Where do you loyalties lie? With this ship or are you still under someone command other than myself?"

"I come back to Starfleet by special request. As far as I know, I'm reporting to you." She smiled at him playfully, sensing the growing distrust alongside the curiosity. "Yeah, you're right. You might not be able to trust that I'm giving you a straight answer. I can tell you that I'm not reentering Starfleet to go back to my old job. And anyway, if I were, we wouldn't be meeting like this."

"I did see that several of you 'difficulties' was closely timed with a few of the sealed portions of your record. I will assume that one had something to due with the other, but as they say trust must be earned. As a Starfleet Officer a certain level of trust comes with that title. SO...until you prove otherwise, you have my trust." He then added with a devilish, but serious grin, "Betray that trust and your previous disfficulties will pale in comparison."

Aiona laughed again and lowered her eyes. She hadn't been expecting to be trusted; like everything in her life, trust was something she'd had to fight for. "I honestly hope that I never have to, Captain. There's a part of me that's excited to be here, a reluctant part, but a part nonetheless." She took a step towards the door. "Was there anything else?"

Shaking his head, "No...but I think you may have difficulties with a few of the Marines, but that is to be expected. You are dismissed."

~Marines. Great.~ Aiona thought to herself, raising a hand in goodbye and heading back to her quarters. This was a different world that the one she'd been living in for these past few years. As she walked through the corridor she ran her hand against the walls, wondering if she could have taken over a Prometheus class ship. ~Doubtful; not even at my peak.~ And sliding away a piece of bulkhead, she slipped silently into the Jeffrey's tube, making her way back the long way, for old time's sake.
