Silonez looked at the engineering PADD then up at his colleague, "I've dealt with impossible scenarios before, but keeping this ship cloaked while an anti-matter explosion is going on is going to be bordering on impossible." Silonez keyed up a ship schematic "The blown out EPS on deck six is going to be an issue until the bypass is done, did anyone get around to repairing the Bioneural controls for structural integrity on Deck 10?"
Flaherty took no time to respond to him, and instead jabbed his finger menacingly at a nearby crewman. "What're you doin'? He interrogated, making no bones about showing he was in no mood to be messed with.
The crewman stammered, "I. . . I was just. . ."
Flaherty cut him off, "Go to deck ten and repair th' bioneural structural integrity command module, take toolbox seven, that'll do'er well." The crewman stood with a baffled look on his face for only a moment before turning to start on his new assignment. "I cannae believe this bloody idiocy that's aboot t' be done with mae ship." He glanced at Silonez for confirmation that the other man was indeed listening, "It's nae only ridiculous, it's bloody maddening that th' Cap'n thinks we can even do it!" He leaned heavily on the panel in front of him and looked to the floor, his mind blank with overwork and exhaustion.
"Short of breaking out plasma welders and using workable scraps to turn them into bulk heads I honestly don't know what else to do, Structural integrity on deck six is questionable, the fire on deck nine left section 8 unuseable, you'd think that the captain thinks this is a Klingon warship." Silonez grumbled.
The engineer exhaled, "Well, that's a good way of puttin' it, I'm just nae sure I can actually fix her with th' way th' Cap'n is using her." He slapped a hand over his eye and rubbed at it with the heel of his palm.
"Short of getting the XO down here and telling him to relieve the captain of duty, which requires the CMO to certify, there's not a lot we can do, or is there?"
"Now you're soundin' too devious, what've you got on your mind?" Flaherty was struck curious by the other man's hinting, wondering if there was a 'legal way of getting out of the mess they currently resided in.
"Unless the Captain starts acting in a manner that can be considered out of the ordinary or in a way that is considered irrational we can't relieve him of duty under article 130, if things start going to hell we might have to do so, I don't want it to come to that." Silonez said matter of factly
Flaherty sighed loudly, "Well, the unfortunate part 'ere is that this is probably th' only course o' action that'll get us outta here in one piece." He leaned backwards in a stretch, his back popping as he did, "I'm nae usually in the business o' deposing mae commanding off'cers, all we can really do is make sure the old girl holds together." MacCallum patted the nearest bulkhead affectionately as he spoke, feeling a great pride in the all but ailing ship. He studied the schematic of the cloaking device, exploring its many power passageways and wires with a certain degree of awe. "it'll take some serious work ta get the cloak to hold while she's at warp, are ye in for helpin' me with it?
"There is an option, I read about a bunch of fixes done to the Prometheus class that solved some of the problems we are having, the kicker is we will lose some warp speed doing this, but it beats having to lock up the CO in the brig and explain our selves to Admiral Rittenhouse." Silonez said "If time starts to run out I go to the first officer about this, we may also have to put the Chief of security in the brig as well, that's debatable."
I nae familiar with th' upgrades ye mean, but I say if it'll work, let's do it."MacCallum was unopposed to altering the ship at this point, as anything he had been doing for the past few days was going to need serious overhaul work in the end. It seemed more foolish still to not upgrade the ship as much as possible anyways, opposed to having just their standard capabilities and features. They had to do everything possible to keep the Freedom running, even if it meant damaging her further in the long run.
Silonez pulled up the files on the parts needed and displayed them on the work station, "From what I can remember they installed this module into the cloaking control, and then installed boosters into the emitters that reduced the power demand, the down side was the shield control has a five second delay on it so we can't engage or disengage the shield and the cloak without the delay on it, but it works and these modules," he paused as a cargo manifest came up "what the hell!"
"What?" Flaherty leaned in closer, unsure what they were looking at or what had excited Lt. Ericson. He searched the board for anything that was openly relevant, but found nothing, "What're we lookin' at?"
Silonez was fuming, "We've had these parts onboard since this ship was built!" he pause collecting himself, "lets get teams working on this asap, wake everyone up, we're going to be busy."
MacCallum stared at the schematic, hoping for it to randomly change and become an easy job, which it failed to do. "Aye, I'll round 'em up, you get th' materials here so we can start once I get 'em."
It was turning out to be an exceptionally long day.
