Mission: M-19 Temporal Aftermath
Location: DS3
Timeline: Current

After weighing all his options, as well as talking things over with Samantha, Doctor Rhineholt made the decision to have his memories restored; or as Doctor Russ explained merely unlocked. As much as Samantha wanted to be with Jason for his procedure, he thought it best for her not to come along just in case the worst happened and he ended up going stark raving mad; Jason didn't want her to remember him that way.

Standing outside of primary sickbay on DS3, Jason took a deep breathe before waking in for what he hoped would be a successful procedure. Seeing Doctor Russ standing a little ways away, Jason walked up "Good morning Doctor Russ, I've made a decision on how to proceed forward with my memory problems" he commented with a smile.

Alvin turned seeing Rhineholt "Morning to ya Doctor. So what way have ya decided to go with your memory issues" Russ inquired.

Letting out a brief sigh "I've decided to have you restore, or unlock my memories. The last thing I want to do is give up my commission to return to the Academy and have to start my career all over again" Jason explained hoping he was making the correct decision.

"Good choice Doctor Rhineholt" he replied "Shucks, we'll have ya fixed up quicker than Aunt Mable can bake a pie. Come with me and we'll get ya sorted so I can start the procedure."

Jason followed Alvin into the next room as Alvin turned "Doctor hop up on this here bio-bed and get yourself comfy while I go and fetch the required medications. After that I'll go over a couple of things then we'll get started" he instructed then tuned and left the room.

Rhineholt did as instructed and layed on the bed being somewhat nervous about the procedure; after all it wasn't like setting a broken limb.....this was his mind.......his very existence he was gambling with. But yet it was better than the alternative in his way of thinking.

Several minutes later Doctor Russ returned with three rather large containers of medications as Jason just looked on thinking maybe this wasn't the right decision after all.

Seeing the look on Rhineholt's face Alvin grinned "Don't worry Doc, I'm not using all of these on ya" as he gave a light chuckle before grabbing the hypo "I'm going to inject ya with three different drugs ten minutes apart. Once the last drug is administered that's when the magic starts to happen. Ya may feel a little disoriented but just relax and it'll pass as the drugs start retrieving your suppressed memories. If all goes well in about two hours ya should be as ya were before with your memories and medical knowledge. Any questions" he concluded.

"Actually I have two. Firstly is this compound habit forming and secondly will I be monitored during the whole procedure" Jason inquired wanting to know if he was really in good hands or not before it was too late.

"No it's not habit forming and secondly I'll be here with ya the whole step of the way" Russ replied "Ready to get ya back to your former self?"

"As ready as I ever will be I suppose" Jason answered ready for what was to come next.

The next thirty minutes flew by as Jason received each one of the hypos just like the Doctor had explained. Suddenly he felt a little confused trying to remember why he was even there in sick bay as he heard someone say "Just relax Doctor Rhineholt and let the drugs do their job."

While laying there Jason started remembering all sorts of details of when he was a boy.....people, places, events, and the like.....things he hadn't remembered in years. A little while later he started remembering his days at the Academy and what he was studying. He even could recall his classes and what he was learning; along with some of his struggles of trying to be a really good student. His Academy days seemed to last forever in his mind; then he started remembering his first ship he was assigned to and all the struggles of being a young officer. As time progressed his mind revisited each one of the three ships he either was assigned to previously or was currently serving on.

Two hours rolled on by rather quickly when Doctor Russ gave Rhineholt one last injection to bring his mind back to reality. Several minutes later Russ stood over Jason with a smile "Doctor Rhineholt, how y'all feeling now; it looks like you've come out of the drug comma ya were in" he inquired waiting patently for a response.

Hearing a familiar voice Jason turned his head "I actually feel pretty good" then he paused "So was the procedure a success; I mean I don't feel like I'm going mad or anything" he inquired.

Alvin let out a laugh "No ya haven't gone mad and we'll find out soon enough if the procedure worked or not. You rest for another hour then I'll be back and we'll play twenty questions and see if you're back to your old self" he explained then stood and left the area.

Jason relaxed and starred at the ceiling hoping for the best from the procedure; It was his future that was hanging in the balance; not to mention any kind of relationship with Samantha.

An hour later Doctor Russ returned to Jason's bedside "So Doc how are ya feeling after resting for an hour" he inquired.

Thinking for a moment "Actually I feel fine with the exception of a slight headache" Jason replied.

"That's normal and should pass shortly. So let's play twenty question, shall we" as Alvin asked him questions about the things that he had admittedly forgotten from the list that Sam had shown "Excellent Doctor. It looks like all the things ya thought you didn't know you do indeed know."

Jason smiled "Well that certainly is welcomed news" then he paused a moment "So does this mean I don't have to give up my commission and go back to the Academy and start all over again" he inquired happy to feel normal once again.

"That's right. Ya are as fit as the preverbal fiddle mentally. I'm going to sign a release stating that you're fit for duty and will be able to keep being the CMO for your ship" Alvin stated before continuing "But I would like your help treating anyone else from your ship now that you've gone through the procedure yourself; an extra pair of knowledgeable hands never hurts."

Jason sat up on the side of the bed "It would be my pleasure to assist you Doctor Russ plus it may be comforting to the rest of the crew to see a familiar face for such an important procedure" Rhineholt replied with a smile.

"Excellent Doc. I'll contact ya when and if anyone else shows up from your ship for the same procedure" Alvin stated "So you're free to go and if anything unusual occurs contact me right away no matter what time of the day or night it is; although I doubt you'll have any sort of problems" Doctor Russ commented.

Standing Jason extended his hand "Thank you Doctor Russ you just saved my life and my career" as the two Officers shook hands.

"It was my pleasure Doctor Rhineholt, I'm just glad everything worked out for ya" Russ replied with a grin.
