Doctor Rhineholt sat in his office finishing up his monthly report to Command, which was the usual occurrence this time of the quarter, to keep them up on what was happening in all three sick bays when he heard a knock on his door. Looking up “Yes Ensign, what can I do for you” Jason inquired with a smile.
“I wanted to let you know I’m done for the day” then she paused for a moment “I thought I might go to dinner; would you like to join me” Samantha inquired thinking she had nothing to loose by initiating an invitation.
Jason grinned “Since I need to have dinner as anyway, sure I’ll join you” he replied surprised by the invitation.
Sam wasn’t too pleased with his response “Gee Doc don’t feel like you have to do me any favors” she started with a grin only half joking.
Letting out a slight sigh “I apologize that didn’t come out the right way” as he paused “What I meant to say is yes having dinner with you would be nice. Where would you like to eat.”
Sam just grinned “Nice save Doctor;I thought it would be fun to try out the aft lounge; I haven’t been there before” she replied.
“Neither have I so we may as well check it out” he replied as the two officers made their way to the lift just outside of primary sick bay. After the doors closed “Computer, deck 14, aft lounge” Jason called out.

Walking into the lounge Jason noticed the area was quite a bit smaller than the main lounge and there didn’t seem to be very many people at the moment. Looking to Sam “This is nice and it looks like we almost have the place to ourselves.”
“I noticed that and that’s fine with me” she replied with a smile “So let’s see what the replicators have on the menu.”
They both walked over to the replicator when Jason commented “Ladies first” as he gestured with a smile.
“Why thank you kind Sir” Sam replied with a wry smile “Computer, one dinner salad with Caesar dressing and two sesame bread sticks” as her order appeared “I’ll go and claim us a table while you get your dinner” then she walked out into the small dining room.
Even though the menus was somewhat more simplified than the main lounge, there still was an ample selection. Looking things over Jason made his selection “Computer one steak medium and french fried potatoes” came the request. He grabbed his dinner and looked around for Sam. Seeing her at a table by a viewport, he walked over and sat.
After placing a napkin on his lap Jason looked at Sam’s dinner “That’s all you’re going to eat” he queried with a grin.
“This is plenty, besides a girl has to watch her figure you know” Sam answered with a grin “And I suppose you’re going to eat all that.”
“Yup. I starving since I forgot to eat lunch” he commented as he cut his steak and tasted a piece.
“Doctor, you of all people should know better than skip a meal” Sam replied with a little concern in her voice.
“Guilty as charged” as he started eating some of the fries “You’re right though, I should know better” then Jason decided to change the subject “Sam what do you like to do for fun; when you’re not working that is.”
Taking a sip of her beverage “I like physical activities like hiking, jogging; but what I really like is rock climbing” she stated with a smile “And you?”
Jason chuckled “Well not that I have a lot of free time but I do try to workout two to three times a week to stay physically in shape. No one wants to see a flabby Doctor.”
“I was wondering sometime when we have the same time off how would you like to go rock climbing with me; of course it’ll be in one of the holodecks. I think you might enjoy the challenge”Sam suggested with a smile.
Thinking for a moment “That does sound like fun” then he paused “But don’t you need some kind of specialized equipment” Jason inquired.
“Yes, but trust me I have plenty of equipment for the both of us. Have you ever done that kind of activity before” she asked being curious.
“No I haven’t…..is that a problem” he queried.
Sam smiled “Not at all. I can show you enough to get you started then we can go from there” she explained being pleased that Jason was going to take her up on her invitation. Then a thought occurred to her “Jason do you have your padd on you.”
“Of course” was he reached into his right thigh pocket then setting it on the table. Sam picked up the device and started keying in some information then handed it back to him.
“I made a notation about a special climbing suit you’ll have to replicate in your size to wear before we actually do any climbing” Sam explained “It’s more for safety and comfort than anything else.”
Looking at what she had keyed in “Ok I can do that” then placed it back in it’s normal location on his person.
The two officers sat and chatted for the next hour when the Doctor noticed a young Ensign eating his dinner; or should I say ‘shoveling’ the food in his mouth like it was going to be his last meal ever. Jason keep an eye on the young man while talking with Sam when the worst happened.
Jason got up and ran over seeing the Ensign grabbing his throat with one hand and slamming the table with his other “Ensign can you breathe; I’m a Doctor” he stated as the guy’s face was a rather bright shade of red. The guy looked at Jason while shaking his head no. Rhineholt helped the guy up out of his seat walked behind him placing his arms around his midsection. Joining his hands placing them under his rib cage thrusting up trying to dislodge the food in his throat; but to no avail.
By this time Sam was nearby ready to lend any assistance necessary. Jason noticed the red face was slowly turning to a bluish color as he told the Ensign “Let’s get you on the floor so I can get you your breathing back” as the guy nodded yes.
Laying the Ensign on his back he looked towards Sam “ Grab me that soda straw off our table please” he requested and Sam obliged. Looking at his patient while pulling out a small folded scalpel from his pocket “I’m going to make an incision in your throat so you can breathe again” Looking up at Sam “Hold his shoulders down to keep him still; this may hurt a little” she did as requested then Jason made the required cut then quickly placed a small section of the straw in the incision as the Ensign gasped finally being able to breathe once again.
Tapping his comms “Transporter room, Doctor Rhineholt here, lock on to my signal for an emergency sight to sight transport to primary sick bay, deck 7” came the request as he placed one hand on his patient and the other on Sam’s shoulder.
“On it Doctor” and moments later the three disappeared in a blue shimmering light.
