M2: Aggressive Negotiations
Location: Mess Hall
Timeline: Day 3 - prior to departure
After leaving Silonez and telling the lift where to go Da'nal tapped his commbadge. "Lieutenant DeHavilland report to the Mess Hall immeddiatley."
=^="Undestood, sir. I'm on my way."=^= DeHavilland replied.
Da`nal walked into the mess hall and head to the replicator, generating himself a drink and the item he needed. With everything in hand he moved to one of the couches and took a seat.
CJ DeHavilland stepped through the doors into the Mess Hall and paused, looking around the room for the ship's Commander. He really had never spent any time with him individually, unless you counted having orders called out to you from behind your station at the CoNN. Relax, CJ, it's not that big of a deal, he said to himself.
He spotted the Commander and made his way quickly towards him, pausing just before the couch.
"Sir, reporting as requested." CJ said, standing with arms behind his back.
"Have a seat Lieutenant. Would you like something to drink?"
CJ shook his head, "No sir, but thank you." he replied, shifting a bit uneasily in his seat.
Da`nal noticed the man's trepidation and smirked a bit. "You can relax. You're acting as if you've been called into the Commandants office after being in a brawl while in San Fransisco."
CJ smirked, but shook his head, "No.. there's no security staff outside the door." he chuckled. It broke the tension within his own mind enough that he did relax a bit. "What can I do for you, sir?" he asked.
"You can sit down." indicationing the seat opposite his. "I wanted to talk to you about you piloting of the ship during our engagement a few days ago."
CJ cringed, but sat down beside him. "Can't say I didn't expect we'd be having this conversation." he sighed, wiping his hand across his forehead.
With a stern expression he leaned forward a bit and enough volume to cause the others in the mess hall to fall quiet. "What DID you expect? Did you expect I would do nothing after you spin this ship like a top and nearly fly the nacelles from their supports?"
CJ shook his head, "No, sir." he replied, "To be honest, I've purposely been steering clear." he added.
Leaning back in his seat. "After that exhibition I wouldn't thing that you would hide from anything....although you did a good job evading those torpedoes near the end of the battle."
"Torpedoes can be easier to dodge than an upset CO." he smirked. "but thank you." he added. "I made sure to give the repair chief a hand in repairing some of the damage." he said.
"That maybe true, but you know it would be impossible to 'dodge' me forever. Not to mention that if Lt. McPherson had been aboard at the time it would have been him you needed to worry about more than me. However your 'steering clear' was only delaying the inevitable."
"Aye, sir." CJ replied.
Standing, Da`nal stepped out and away from the couches and table. "On your feet Lieutenant."
Great, CJ thought, quickly standing up and snapping to attention. "Sir."
Looking towards the others in the mess hall. "Everyone...ATTENTION TO ORDERS! Lieutenant DeHavilland, for your superior piloting skills demonstrated during the battle to defend Deep Space 5. I hereby award you with the Flying Cross. While the unique maneuvers you demonstrated did cause damage to the ship, your piloting skills brought everyone home safely. Congratulations." Pinning the award the CJ's uniform.
CJ stared strangely at Da'nal for a moment, not quite able to process what he was saying. After an akward silence he managed to find his voice. Thank you, sir." he said, still dumbstruck.
"You are welcome Lieutenant. Just don't make a habit of trying to fly my ship apart."
CJ slowly grinned widely, "Aye, sir." he said, "I'll keep it under the speed limit." he chuckled.
