Mission:
M13-B: The Big Goodbye
Location: USS Achilles - Ready Room
Now that the Achilles had arrived at Deep Space Nine the first thing Da`nal needed to do was meet with the CO's of the ships in his small fleet that will be accompanying the Achilles. The holographic display on his desk held the bios of the two Captains. He knew one of the XO's, having served briefly with then Lt. Montoya on his his first ship...the USS Freedom. That though took him back to his original command and his thoughts drift as he waited for his XO and the others to arrive.
Travis stepped in, PADD in hand and looking around. "Don't tell me I made it first." He shook his head and looked to Da'nal.
Da`nal replied humorously, "Surprisingly you did."
Johnathan Pike walked the halls of the USS Achilles until he found the bridge from there he headed for the briefing room. The doors slide open and he stepped inside. He nodded to the Commodore and his XO. "Commodore, Commander" he said as he headed for a seat at the table
Da`nal rose to greet the new arrival. "Greetings Captain. How is your ship and crew?"
Travis also stood, waiting for Da`nal to finish before extending his hand in the usual manner. "Something to drink Commander, before the Commodore here grills you?" He asked with a smile as he pulled up the reports on his padd.
"No thank you commander" said Johnathan with a smile. He like both the commander and the Commodore and was excited to final begin leaving.
Rico had just spoken to Captain Benjamin and beamed over to the Achilles by himself. Thinking as he materialized on the massive ship's bridge, ~This was definitely going to delay things...~
Activating the chime he hear the call to enter as the doors parted and he entered the room, the last to arrive. "My apologies Sir..."
Da`nal interrupted. "No need," lifting one of the many padds on his desk, "I already know why you were delayed. Have a seat."
Rico nodded. He had served briefly with the Commodore before so he knew basically what to expect from him.
Da`nal, already tired of sitting stood and moved around behind his chair. "First things first. As Commander Montoya has just recently found out Captain Benjamin resigned his command and has been transferred
'Well, at least a resignation is better than a relievement and mutiny' Travis thought to himself. "So, are congratulations or commiserations in order then Commander?" He asked with a slight smile.
Rico, normally able to hold his own was at a loss. "To be honest I'm not sure. I will of course keep things together." Looking to Da`nal, "I know it's soon but have you begun looking for a new CO for the Berlin?"
Da`nal nodded, "I have already selected one. You." His lip curled slightly, "And to answer Mr. Stone's question...Both."
Obviously surprised Rico replied, ~So much for a delay~, he thought to himself. "Thank you Sir. I'm honored."
Pike watched as the conversation had unfolded and a large smiled beamed across his face it was not everyday you got to see someone promoted to commanding officer of a starship.
Rico looked from one to the other as the commented or reacted to the announcement. From a logistical stance, fortunately, he already had the Berlin ready to go so there was little to handle there. However there was one issue that needed to be brought to light....at the right time.
Da`nal could see there was something on the man's mind but he continued. "I have no doubt you will do fine." Looking to the others, "Now lets get down to business...we have a long mission ahead of us."
