M10: Divine Intervention
Timeline: 1145
Checking the time, the Chief Warrant Officer noticed he was almost due in for his appointment with the ship's CO. Logging out of his personal console, Mitchell made his way over to the Ready Room, nodding politely to those who caught his attention. Reaching the ready room a full five minutes early, he looked around to see if there was a yeoman around, or should he just announce himself.
MCPO Nelson came out into the corridor outside his office as he headed to the turbolift. Seeing the officer standing there he knew immediately who it was and cringed. "I'm sorry sir, I forgot to reschedule your meeting. What with recent developments, the Admiral is on his way to the transporter room to meet the planets Prime Minister before the briefing. Did you get the notice that you were to attend the briefing?"
For a moment, Mitchell looked at the Master Chief like he had grown a second head, then shook his head and chuckled. "No indeed Master Chief. I didn't really look at any notices before I stopped reading over the procedures for the multi-vector and headed up here. Don't worry about the appointment, that's why we always show up early. Would the briefing details be accessible on a terminal?" He asked curiously. Having been enlisted himself, Mitchell knew the workload could easily pile up and small details be missed.
"No...just the meeting announcement anyway. This was a last minute scheduling as it is. Lets head over to the Observation Lounge, we can wait for the CO there and maybe you can get in a brief 'check in' before things get started.
"Works for me Master Chief. Lead the way." He nodded and got in step behind the yeoman. Hopefully they would have time to do a brief check in, and find out what he was going to be doing onboard now.
[Transporter Room One]
Da`nal and Lantiq were in the transporter room waiting on the reply from the surface. He hated waiting on 'dignitaries' and the pleasantries that protocol required of his for such a visit. At least the situation would allow him to bypass most of then, even though a small growl rumbled from his throat.
Lantiq was lined up one pace behind Da'nal to his commander's right, he heard the low rumble from the Klingon and correctly assumed the Admiral was not one who overly enjoyed exchanging diplomatic niceties. Still it sounded like the Prime Minister had a problem on his hands and undoubtedly would be needing assistance from the Achilles before this was over.
His thoughts were interrupted by an increased hum from the equipment and the beginning of a transport shimmer on the pad.
Letting out a deep breath as the transported cycled completed Da`nal looked up at the man that materialized. He wasn't the bureaucrat the he had expected. Instead he had a fit and almost hawkish appearance that highlighted the minor cranial ridges characteristic of the Dandarand people. "Greetings Prime Minister. We intercepted the hail sent by Dr. Galan and we can a quickly as possible. Has there been any communications with the attackers?"
[Observation Lounge]
Together Lance and CWO Mallory entered the observation lounge while they waited for the Admiral and the other senior staff to arrive. "So Gunner, when did you decide to get your commission?"
That comment caused Mallory to chuckle slightly. "Didn't so much 'decide' as was 'decided'. I had actually managed an early escape as a Senior Chief, took up a business on Starbase 47. 'Couple of problems came up, we lost our Security and Tactical Chief, so the CO offered me a 'choice' of taking a field commission to Junior Grade Lieutenant, or Warrant. Last thing I was going to do was go totally to the darkside, and here we are." He sighed deeply for a moment before continuing. "Originally, I was an Intel Analyst and Encryption Specialist, but I've done enough of the Security and Tactical over the years, I'm proficient. When the new officer arrived to take over full time, I opted to stay in and applied for a transfer. What's it like being enlisted on a ship that little spilts in three, Master Chief?"
"Not much different than any other ship. A Prometheus class ship is so automated a chimpanzee and two trainees could run it blindfolded while hung-over."
He chuckled as the idea of that one went through his head. "Master Chief, good thing you didn't say cadets and ensigns, because they can't even get their uniforms right half the time without having to double check the wrong manual." Mitchell commented, remembering some incidents from his past.
[Corridor]
"Yes, the dig site was over run by a group called the Right Arm. They are an off shoot of an ancient religious faction that has been growing in popularity over the last few years. They are currently holding the team from the Daystrom institute and say that as long as no action is taken they will remain unharmed. They demand the complete removal of the Daystrom team and all offworlders they deem as hazardous to the teaching of the Goddess.
Da`nal listened as they walked. "Well I have now intention of yielding to the demands of some dishonorable band of terrorists."
Lantiq listened to the minister's description of events and after Da'nal had spoken he asked his own question "What is the likelihood of this group carrying out their threat to harm the archaeological team Minister?
"There is a great deal of animosity against offworlder's right now..."
Da`nal interrupted, "That could work to our favor."
"How so?"
Stopping before the lounge as the doors opened, "Simple Prime Minister, we will use their xenophobia against them."
[Observation Lounge]
Lance looked over to the entrance as the doors opened, he didn't recognize the first person but the two that follow were very familiar. Getting up he turned to the Admiral as he entered. "Sir allow me to introduce Chief Warrant Officer Mallory, security officer. His transport had been delayed in getting to SB-80 before our departure and diverted here."
Da`nal looked at the officer appraisingly. "Welcome aboard Mr. Mallory, glad you could make it. Our current security chief has taken ill so I will need to stand in. I assume you are up to the task?"'
Standing in a fluid motion, he came right to attention as soon as he made out the Admiral. "Thank you, Admiral. Starbase 47 delayed the departure slightly to make sure my...replacement was ready for the job. I would be honored to, and since that was my main role on 47." The CWO responded in a calm, collected voice.
Glancing to his XO and back to Mallory, nodding. "Then take a seat. The rest of the senior staff should be here shortly."
