Mission: M9: Rest, Recovery, and Reflection
Location: SB 80 - Temp Offices
Timeline: MD 3

Even thought they were technically on leave there was still some loose ends to tie-up. After their return to the station Velez had seen to the securing of weapons and equipment. With the Achilles under repair and refit everything had been turned over to the stations garrison and the ship would be resupplied at a later date.

A number of their troops are still recovering, now in the station sickbay, and the rest of the Marines or at least most of them were enjoying their leave. More importantly there was a new CO, with a new way of doing things and as the Senior NCO he needed to make sure the transition was as smooth as possible. There was also a few other issues that needed to be addressed.

Setting out of his quarters in the Station's "Marine Country" and he tapped his commbadge. =^=SgtMaj Velez to Capt. Post, Do you have a moment ma'am? =^=

Post, who was in the office she had been graciously given by the station's marine detachment whilst the Achilles was being repaired. It was small but it was enough. She was going over the paperwork that had accumulated when her combadge chirped and the Sergeant Major spoke. It was the Platoon Sergeant from the Recon unit rather than the overall detachment Senior NCO (which due to the fact that they had a Sergeant Major already would have to be another sergeant major, highly unusual for a platoon sized outfit). She tapped her combadge to reply

=^= Of course, I'm in the office the Station's MARDET has found for me, =^=

=^= Roger that Ma'am. Be there shortly. =^=

It didn't take long for him to arrive at the office their new CO had been provided. Even though the ship's CO had put them all on leave, Velez was wearing his duty uniform; you didn't go to meet the new boss in civies. Activating the chime he waited for the doors to part, nodding to the other Marines as the passed in the corridor.

Rebecca glanced up and placed her Padd down on the desk.

"Enter," She called.

Stepping into the office as the doors parted, his first impression, short but with a firm grip...attractive. He had seen several 'attractive' Marines move up the ranks faster than they should have just on that alone. However he would wait to make that determination until he had seen her in action.

He stepped up offering her his hand, "Sgt Major Arcenio Velez. I thought we should meet before everyone disappears on their liberty. In addition to seeing if there was anything that I could do to make sure things run as smooth as possible as you take command of the detachments."

"Good to meet you, Sergeant Major, have a seat" Rebecca nodded with a smile as she shook his hand. "At this point my main concern is to get all of the administrative stuff done whilst the detachment is on Liberty, so if anything I would appreciate if you could provide me with performance reports for the enlisted Marines that would be ideal."

Taking a "Consider it done. All of the ships Marines were deployed to Mercer's surface during the last operation, as I'm sure you already know, but I'll get those reports to you before the day is out. Upon our return all gear was pulled into the stations stores, which should be a good thing. Once the ship's repairs are completed we should be re-equipped with new gear."

"That is good news, I also want to know how our people have handled their deployments, I know that combat can be as mentally damaging as it is physically, I don't want any macho bullshit when it comes to the effects of seeing combat," Rebecca replied.

"Understood. I'll keep an eye out for anyone having 'difficulties'. Do you wand to to have everyone report to the stations councilor for evaluation?"

"No, I don't want to create the impression that I am moddy-coddling my Marines, it'll be up to the Officers and Sergeants to spot any welfare problems and then refer them to the councilors," Rebecca replied thoughtfully. "

"Agreed...better to keep things 'in house' unless needed. To return to the issue of the deployment there was an issue, two actually, that I wanted to discuss with you."

"Go on," Rebecca nodded a slight frown crossing her features.

"Concerning Lance Corporal Harper and Staff Sergeant Frey."

"Ah, their illegal rescue mission?" Rebecca questioned.

Velez was Recon, so was Frey he was a good Marine with a bright future and he was determined to protect him as much as possible. "In part yes...though I wouldn't label it that harshly. In fact if one looks at the letter of the order I passed. The rescue could be considered to be within the scope of my instructions.

"Before we get into that Jason...SSgt. Frey came to me concerning Harper's status. While not pinned as Recon he felt that Harper had earned his place within the Recon Platoon. Both he and Sgt Brianna already consider him a member of their team. Frey brought the request to me formally as well as his recommendation for Harpers promotion and I endorse his both recommendations. In order to make things official I can see that Harper is put through a Recon course once we are under way. Of course such action needs your endorsement, and the Captain's...the Commodore's approval." He said correcting himself.

Rebecca sighed.

"We cannot commend someone and recommend them for Recon status on the same day that we discipline them for disobeying an order," Rebecca commented. "I've spoken with Lieutenant Malluk, and he is of the opinion that Lance Corporal Harper disobeyed a direct order to affect the rescue. Don't get me wrong, Sergeant Major, I think he did the right thing, but we cannot have Marines disobeying orders, even if it is a case of the letter of the order overcoming the spirit of the order."

Rebecca paused.
