Mission: M2: Aggressive Negotiations
Location: Deck 4
Timeline: After the brig post

ON:
This was something T'Pal was going to enjoy, for more than one reason. Having the identity of the intruder brings satisfaction in itself. However, the other reason was far more personal, although that would have to wait. She had left Webb with Isha earlier and and made her way to the main security office after getting a final confirmation from Nniol and having her wounds seen to in sickbay. There she motioned the Gamma shift team leader over.

Kahl could see there was something else wasup with his chief so he alerted one of his other team members to stand by. he saw the whole incident in teh brig and he himself was convinced there that she was truly drunk. She had surprised him.. again.

"Computer, locate Nerok," T'Pal instructed as Ensign Kalh stepped into her office.

"Nerok is in his quarters," came the answer and automatically sent the exact location to her PADD.

"Keep a lock on his vital signs and inform me of he leaves his quarters," she said and turned her attention to Kahl. Noticing that he had anticipated his chief's next move, T'Pal she didn't waste time and with the two officers following her, she made her way to Nerok's quarters.

"Acknowledged," came the monotone answer from the ship's computer.

When they arrived in front of the 'officer's' quarters, T'Pal pressed the chime, while the two officers removed their phazers and set them to stun.

A normal man might have been expected to be sleeping at this hour, but ‘Nerok’ or Geillun as he was known in other circles was far from a normal man and one who had not expected to run into Isha t’Illialhlae in a turbolift. Still, he now knew where she was quartered and had spent the intervening period putting in place a few measures to ensure that whatever happened everything could go ahead as planned.

As the doorchime sounded he raised his head and a fleeting flicker of discomfiture crossed his features – ‘Nerok’ knew no-one and had made no friends on board – Geillun had seen to that – so who was that a-knocking?

He rose, reaching as he did so in the open desk drawer for a phaser; this he concealed behind his palm as he replied, “Come in,†in fluid unaccented Vulcan.

T'Pal got her own weapon and tricoder to scan for weapons ready before she stepped through the door. From experience with such men, she tended to prepare according to what she would do if she was in their position. As she walked in, weapon trained on him, she addressed him immediately. "Don't move! You are under arrest on suspicion of impersonating a man named Nerok..." she stated, scanning him. "Now ...slowly put your weapon down and place your hands behind your head," she said and kept her eyes on him steadily, ready to shoot him even if he made the slightest movement outside what she had told him.

Okaaaaay! Geillun raised his hands and turned them over allowing the phaser to drop to the floor as he did.

"You're good," he said continuing to speak in Vulcan. "And correct. My name is not Nerok. My name is Sulek, my department deals with the naturalisation of would-be Romulan defectors - we assess them before admitting them to the Federation, deporting them, or seeing that they are never seen again," he said in a measured tone as he did as she asked. "I am here to assess a story told to us by your Doctor regarding one such would-be defector. Who do you think I am, Lieutenant?"

"All in good time... " she said coldly. After scanning him thoroughly once more, she stood back. "And it seems you are not so good," she said as the officers put the restraints on him. "Take him to the brig.. cell 4 and isolate him. Don't let our other prisoner become awre of him." she instructed and followed them as they moved out of his quarters.

"Ask your doctor about Talar, if you require verification," he said, the indifferent shrug implied in his words, "I have nothing to hide."

Tapping her comm badge T'Pal sealed the door to 'Nerok's' quarters. "T'Pal to Aktuh, meet me on deck 4, as soon as you are able, " she said as she walked behind the three towards main security.

T'Pal was in covert world for very long and she knew Sulek would just be another layer to cover himself with. "Sulek..." she said as she walked behind them, just loud enough for him to hear. "I am sure he will check out.... only.....," she said with a distinct pause.. They had reached the main security and she allowed the word to hang casually between them a little longer. Once she had moved to the front and had his face in her line of vision, she continued "Let me say it this way... you were seen somewhere else..." she said her tone somewhere between disappointment and a subtle threat.

"You choose to waste your time attempting to trick me with lies," he responded blandly, there was no-one on this ship capable of identifying him by sight, not even Nniol could do that. "Speak with your doctor and she will verify that I am here in relation to her lover. Why waste your time?" he suggested.

T"Pal shrugged. "Perhaps because I have nothng better to do.. then you won't mind to give us some DNA samples, would you?" she asked with an almost friendly tone.

"Be my guest," he replied, just like a man who had nothing to hide, which of course he did not because any test they could do would only verify his claimed identity.

"Thank you, we will get bone and sperm samples soonest," T'Pal said mildly, knowing very well that it was those were the places DNA could not be altered easily, especially in sperm.

"If you insist," 'Nerok's tone was as mild as hers as he evaluated his options.

"I do," she said as she ushered him into the cell, not releasing his restaints yet. She nodded to the guard who went to call for a med tech. "We will do that now, then it is done.. then you can relax," she said and stepped back to activate the force field.

"Oh, I am quite relaxed, Lieutenant," he said wondering if he ought to appear more agitated than he did.

"Yes.. of course... I was attempting to joke.. " she said matter of factly.

"Indeed," 'Nerok' said blandly playing the Vulcan.

The technician had arrived and deactivatin gthe forcefield again, T'Pal stepped with the med tech into the cell. Not letting her guard down, she motioned for the rather nervous young woman to proceed. "Get bone and sperm DNA and a blood sample as well," she instructed her.

"Please lie on your back," said the med tech. She was uncertain since the man was still in restraints, but the security chief didn't move to remove them. Not arguing, she half apologetically motioned the bunk, even if he was going to lie on his hands.

"Of course." He was not especially peturbed, he was to all intents and purposes Vulcan and the sequences that had rewitten the tell-tale markers in his DNA were well established and almost undetectable. It was awkward, but for now the most appropriate thing he could do was to comply.

The young woman went about collecting the blood sample, securing it. "Please lift up your hips, so I can remove your trousers," she said half apologetically, glancing in T'Pal's direction to confirm that she really wanted her to do this, but the expressionless face tolf her what she wanted to know. She quickly lowered his clothing and exposed his upper thighs and groin area, placing herself between the chief and him, to afford him as much privacy as possible. "You will experience slight discomfort,' she warned as she continued to remove a few bone cells from his hip and developing sperm from his testicles. Once she was finished, she dressed him again and stepped back. I am done, you can get up," she said smiling politely. No matter who she was working with, she treated everyone with respect.

TPal nodded satisfied, letting her step out of the cell. Only then did she remove the restaints from 'Nerok' hands and stepped out, activating the force field.

"I quite understand your requirement for caution," he said revealing none of his outrage, "Perhaps you will now tell me who you believe me to be?"

"It is really remarkable," T'Pal said half inspecting him. "The surgery that can be performed...." she said in an almost conversational tone. "Although some things could not be changed, like the soul for instance.. That stays the same."

"The soul." It was a statement, not a question, "What are you talking about?"

"One can rewrite DNA, one can reshape a body, change the face, but voice patterns and the soul of a person, that istays recognizable. And you were recognized... you are not Sulek as you claim to be."

There was nobody on this ship capable of identifying him, he was certain of that. "Who am I supposed to be if not myself?" he said slowly.

"Geillun."

Despite his training and experience, he was astonished, for half a second. "Isha," he said as he turned away from the forcefield. He swallowed and in that second of realisation ground his teeth together ... then he bit down very hard at the back of his mouth and gulped as the liquid spilled from the cracked tooth - felodesine in this form would have his mouth frothing and his brain dissolving on the floor in the three seconds it would take her to drop the field and reach him ... he could not risk giving more than a confirmation of his name and he did not. He knew that as he hit the floor, his eyesight already failing.

They would get nothing more than an identity, and as he died at the end of that heavy fall he rather wished he could have used her more ... even a little bit ... before ... he ..die.....

.........................

In reaction T'Pal jumped forward, but knew it was futile. "Hu'tegh!" she swore. It was not as if she was surprised, it was to be expected. She could have had him searched, trying to find one of a few ways to take himself out, but she didn't. Maybe she didn't regard him as that crucial to her investigation. She wanted him stopped and make sure that Nniol didn't escape with is aide. As she stared coldly at the dead man, she knew that he would have made sure that his plan would have to go through, even if he had beeen caught. Aktuh would know what to look for.

While she walked out she tapped her comm badge. "T'Pal to Da'nal, I need to speak to you right away."

After giving the instructions to the security officers, waiting for her, to have the body transported for an autopsy, she walked to Aktuh, who had arrived in the mean time.

"What do you need from me?" Aktuh asked immediately, without beating around the bush whatsoever, his dark eyes intense as they studied T'Pal's.

"The Romulan intruder on the ship committed suicide..." she stated, slightly frustrated as if it was more a bother than a great loss. "I need you to go through his quarters and look for anything he might have put in place to still assist Nniol to escape," she said thoughtfully.

"Anything else?" the big Klingon asked with a nod.

"He was very experienced..." she mused. "so expect him to have been thorough.. he would have covered his tracks well," she added. Shaking her head slightly, she expressed her frustration. "I lknew that he would have had the means to take himself out,, tooth, nail implant, perhaps all three, but I did't really care if he was dead or alive... I just hope he didn't die with intel which would have been beneficial for us for this mission..." she said.

"I am always more thorough than my opponent," Aktuh said seriously, a glint of...something...in his eyes.

"That is why I ask you to do this.." she said locking eyes with him.

The two shared an intense moment that was full of unspoken communication and finally, Aktuh nodded and said, "I will go now."
