700 words; about a 4 minute read
Mission:
M-18 The Past is Future
Location: Deck 7 - Primary Sick Bay
Timeline: Current
Doctor Rhineholt was in his office going over some of the crew’s medical files seeing who either had medical issues or who was due for their annual physical when his terminal went off. Keying in his security code a strange faced appeared.
“Doctor Rhineholt, I’m Doctor Barr the CMO for the Granger, it’s nice to meet the man who tried to save our Captain” he stated rather long faced.
“Doctor Barr you have my sincerest condolences on the loss of your Captain; from what I can gather he was not only your commanding officer but a friend as well” Jason replied with sincerity in his voice.
“Thank you Doctor, that means a lot. Sadly it hasn’t been an easy time of it here between that and all the injuries to the rest of the crew; not to mention the damage to the ship” Barr explained then continued “Now that the ship is somewhat back to normal, could you send the Captain’s body back to us.”
“Yes of course we can. Give me a couple of hours to make Captain Leon presentable; I don’t want you or any of your staff to have to deal with that” Jason explained knowing that was the right thing to do under the circumstances.
Letting out a long sigh “Thank you Doctor Rhineholt, that is very kind of you and greatly appreciated” then he paused for a moment “You certainly have gone above and beyond what would be expected considering the circumstances between our late Captain and the way you and your staff attended to our injured. We are in your debt” Doctor Barr stated with sincerity in his voice.
“I’m grateful I was able to help. On more of a positive note, the transference of Leon to our CSO was a complete success and both are doing well. I’ll contact you prior to transferring Captain Leon back to your sick bay” Jason concluded with a smile.
“That is good news, and we can certainly use some of that right about now. Thank you Doctor, I’ll wait for your call. Barr out.”
Leaving his office Jason made his way to the morgue, which was directly behind the sick bay complex. Walking in he noticed a crewman “Excuse me, where is the body of the captain from the Granger.”
“Doctor Rhineholt, welcome. We don’t get too many visitors back here, as you would imagine” then walking to a large drawer in the wall and pulling it out “Here is captain's body.”
Jason looked the body over then turned to the crewman noticing it didn’t look very good “I want his body washed and a newly replicated captain’s uniform placed on him. When you’re finished let me know and I will attempt to get rid of the bruising on his face and right hand” came the order.
“As you wish Doctor” the crewman answered and immediately got to work as Jason turned and left the area.
About ninety minutes later his comm went off “Doctor Rhineholt please come to the morgue” tapping his comm “On my way crewman.” Grabbing a transdermal regenerator Jason headed to his destination to finish what had been started.
Walking in Jason looked the captain’s body all over then turning with a smile “Excellent work crewman, I’ll take it from here” he commented.
“As you wish Doctor” came the reply as the crewman attended to his other duties.
Taking the device Rhineholt started going over the face first. Unfortunately cold skin took a lot longer to regenerate than warm skin did, but it wasn’t anything Jason hadn’t done in the past. After about another 30 minutes the captain was looking as good as he was going to look.
Wheeling the captain to the medical transporter Jason contacted the Granger “Doctor Barr, I’m ready to transport Captain Leon directly to your morgue.”
“Understood and thank you once again Doctor for all your help” Barr replied.
Looking at the Captain’s body “Time to go home Sir” Jason stated out loud as he energized the transporter sending him back to his family.
