Mission: M8: The Kzinti War!!!!
Location: TBD
Timeline: Back Post - En route to Mercer

[prior to departing SB 517]

With a sigh of relief, and a quiver of anticipation, Murphy picked up his single piece of carry-on luggage. After a long spaceflight, involving transfers, stopovers from starbase to starbase, CK and he had finally arrived at their destination.

In the turbolift, Murphy turned to his wife and smiled, "Ready for another go?" he inquired, his Irish accent having only been strengthened by traveling abroad.

Chae-kyung's face at the moment sported a very wide grin. She was more then excited to be 'back in the saddle,' as some people put it. It had seemed so long since she was back working with a starship crew, especially in the capacity in which she felt she was truly called. She was exhausted but thrilled at the same time. She was ready for her next adventure and this time it was even more special because she would have Murphy at her side. She slung her own bag over her shoulder gave him a quick wink. "I am more then ready for another go. You know I've been itching to come back for awhile now. How about you, you ready to work in space again?"

Murphy let out a sigh as he dropped his gaze, adjusting his glasses, "Well." he said, "I'm certainly excited to have me hands on a full laboratory with a fed-crew." Murphy paused and shrugged, "But o'course I'll be missing the oceans. It's never easy letting em go after seeing so many in the past while." Murphy's first passion was always the sea. He loved space, and thought of it as the biggest ocean of all, but as a scientist he was primarily an invertebrate zoologist, being able to name and discuss in depth any sea creature on record.

"But..." he continued, "As you know I always crave a wee bit of....excitement." he concluded with a playful wink.

Chuckling a little bit Chae-kyung answered, "Of course Mr. McGregor, isn't that why you married me?" With that said she stood on her very tippy-toes and gently kissed his cheek. "Come on, best we better find our quarters and get settled." She slipped her hand into his was about to start leading the way when she stopped and thought better of it. "Er... maybe you should lead. You know I an awful sense of direction."

Murphy refrained from sporting too much of a ridiculously wide smile as he admired how adorable Chae always was, "Aye lass." he said simply, "On we go!"

Murphy headed out through the turbolift and lead his love down the corridor a short while before arriving at the door to their new quarters, "You know." he said, "This is the first time I've had a couples quarters." he commented, "I've never really looked into it to see if they're any different!"

"I doubt they'll be much different." She laughed a little. "Besides anything will be smaller then what we're used to. That is one advantage of not living on a star ship. Living planet side has so much more room." Chae-kyung gave an over dramatic sigh. "I'm sure we'll manage some how. We'll have to keep your aquariums to a minimum though," she teased.

Murphy chuckled, "Aye that'll be hard to get use ta again." he commented, "But as long as we make room for me superfish, I'll be satisfied." Ever since discovering the first specimen of the species while on Triton base, Murphy had coveted the aging male as his own. Over time more and more were sighted and documented, but Murphy considered the one he found to be the first, and as such he held it in particularly high regard.

Tapping in the security code on the door, Murphy watched the doors to the room swish open.

[The morning after Departure - Outside the Conference room]

Having met with his XO and Intel officer Da`nal stepped out of the conference room to be confronted by his Yeoman...with another PADD. "Not more paperwork?"

Lance grinned. "The burden of command sir. However you're in luck this time, just an updated crew roster."

He had already see the roster for all the Marines that they were to deliver to Mercer for Operation Beachhead and had forwarded that information to Major Stone. Taking the PADD he immediately saw that he FINALLY had two of his vacant department head position filled. That in itself only added to his good mood. "Thank you Chief. Whats out ETA to Mercer?"

~How did I know???~ Lance thought to himself. "Engineering reported some stress on the transports. They brought auxillary fusion generators online to strengthen the structural integrity field but to be safe they want to reduce speed to warp 4. At warp 4 that will put our arrival at just over 26 hours."

Though not a huge delay it was still a delay and it soured his expression slightly. Tapping his combadge; =^=Captain to Bridge, reduce speed to warp 4 and engineering is hereby given discression to adjust our speed as needed to keep the transports intact.=^=

=^=Acknowledged sir. Bridge out.=^=

Lance took the chance to excuse himself. "Sir if nothing further I will let Major Stone know about the delay and see if there is anything he needs."

"Very good. Dismissed"

Da`nal looked over the records of each of his new officers briefly. "Computer locations of Lt and LtCmdr McGregor?"

"Lieutenant and Lieutenant Commander McGregor are in their quarters." The computer stated in its usual matter-of-fact tone.

He called up the location of their quarters and saw that they were in the area, that wasn't surprising being senior officers. He headed off only to see a few Marines coming the opposite direction. They snpped to and as he came near, "As you were Marines."

He stepped onto the lift and announced his destination, then almost immediately cancelled the order. "Bridge.....belay that. Deck 3." He would have had to pass his new officers to getto the bridge. There was no sence in making them come to him just to report in, besides he had things for them to do.

The lift stoped no sooner than it had started and just as quickly he found himself at their door. He activated the chime and waited.

Murphy raised his head when the chime sounded, "Oi, visitors already?" he inquired to no one in particular, "We're a popular duo I and you." he concluded, this time speaking to Chae who stood near by.

Murphy was adjusting the tank that would eventually hold his super fish, which was an ordeal since a three and a half foot fish required a rather large tank, in this case 6 feet tall, 7 feet wide, and 3 feet deep.

"Could you get that, dearest?" He said in an appeasing tone to Chae.

Chae-kyung let out a small chuckle as she looked to Murphy. She had already finished getting her things in order and lounged on the couch with a PaDD, looking over the crew's files. She figured now was a good a time as any to try to get 'acquainted' with the crew. "Of course."

Dropping the PaDD on the couch, she stood up quickly and started towards the door. She liked the more friendly option of opening the door face to face then simply calling out a cold command to simply enter. Well, at least when she was in the quarters which were to become her home. At the 'office' it was a completely different matter. When she reached the door she quickly pushed a button to open it manually. And waited for it to 'swoosh' open.

The door opened to reveal the small woman. Being klingon he was larger than virtually everyone but he had almost half a meter on the tiny human before him. Looking down at her, his hands clasped behind him, "Commander McGregor?"

Craning her neck to look up at their Klingon visitor, Chae-kyung gave the Captain a bit of a guilty smile. "That would be me, Sir." She looked over to her husband and then back. "Err... sorry we're not a bit more presentable. We were going to come and see you just as soon as he got that in working order." She motioned to what Murphy was working on. "We figured we would try to get everything in order before we got caught up in the hard stuff. But since you're here right now... I take it you're about to throw us into the deep end, should've known we wouldn't have had the opportunity of even just a few hours." The smile never really left her face, even as she realized she was rambling and to her superior officer no less. "Okay, I think I'll just shut up now." She cleared her throat. "Sorry, sir."

Da`nal wondered if it was his growing smirk or the arch in his brow that gave her a clue; but as she apologized he chuckled slightly. "No problem Commander. To be honest things have been so hectic around here that I didn't even know the two of you were coming till a few moments ago and as your location was on my way back to the bridge I decided to stop by. As for 'throwing you into the deep end'...I'd have to say that our current situation, your departments aren't critical. Yet.

"Were you breifed at all about our mission prior to you arrival?"

From their expressions he could tell they knew little if anything. Motioning them to take a seat he began to lay out the task ahead of them.
