Anara had a variety of specimens packaged and sealed up on the counter. She had asked a couple of her science officers to help her organize each of them and put them into storage. So far, Reva had been a great help toward finishing up the testing. She had set up the data so that all they needed to do was scan it into the computer, make sure it had the right information and then place it into the right storage. Each specimen had been given a number and a letter. It started from A1 - A20, and then B1 - B 20.
"No, that's a B-6 not a 9-B," Reva was telling a crewman. "Turn it over," she said and watched as the man turned the item top-to-bottom over. "No, no, over the other way." He turned it in the opposite direction, still top-to-bottom. Reva frowned, wondering about Starfleet's intelligence tests. "Like this," she took the item and turned it topside up, then around so the 9-B was readable as B-6. "There. That's it. Now go put it between B-5 and B-7." Reva watched the man's back as he headed into the cold storage.
Anara was typing furiously on the computer. She was glad that she and her team were beginning to start somewhat of a assembly line. She was gathering the samples, placing them on the table. James scanned each of the materials, Anara put the information into the computer and then Reva would place them into storage.
Anara put some fresh specimens on the table, "Alright, James- give me the numbers...what do we have?"
James hated this work, 'Shouldn't this be done by Engineering' he thought darkly "Who ever marked these pieces need a lesson in hand writing" he muttered trying to work out what it said, "Ah, B-9" he said handing it off to a crewmen and picking the next one up "And B-12 and Thats B-19" he said pointing at the other bit while the on in his hands was taken to be placed in order. "Why are we doing this?" he asked for what seemed like the hundredth time, problem was this was the first time he had said it aloud and winced at the stupidity of the question. "I mean why are we doing this instead of scanning the data we do have first?"
"It's important that we organize the data. It's a part of our job, James. We can't simply test things, write reports and then leave things unfinished. Proper storage is just as important as the testing process. If things aren't properly organized and stored then it's difficult to go back if necessary in the future. Hopefully we don't miss anything, but one can never tell," Anara lectured to him.
She placed some more items on the table, "Alright- these are the body parts that we found and we have done as much as we can on this end. So once we have them in the computer, they're going to Sickbay. Tell me the numbers, I also put down my guess on the body part- it might make things easier in medical." As she spoke she rapidly began typing on the computer and then she paused, waiting to hear the numbers.
Another science officer wheeled a hover cart to the table, so that they could place it on the cart and send it to Medical.
"Humph" muttered James under his breath, he knew deep down that this was the best was to do it but at this point in time he wasn't seeing it nor did he see that this kind of work is what he loved when it came to he own specialty. He reeled off another few numbers for the Chief to note down and he moved across the lab to another table. "Is there something we're meant to be looking for here?" he asked "I mean i find a good number of energy signatures and organic residue but..." his voice trailed off.
Anara shook her head, "Not particularly. Reva and I have already down the preliminary testings. The report has already been sent. If they need us to do any other testing, we will have all the specimens organized in storage."
"James- if you're going to complain about doing work- you can leave. I'm not going to continue trying to get you to do your duty. If I hear another complaint, I will be filing a complaint against you. I have many science officers that do their duties without complaint," she said firmly as she typed in the required information.
She set more packages on the table and began picking them up, scanning them and entering the name in. It made the process longer without his help, but she was becoming extremely irritated with him.
Being quiet, Reva did her best to not draw attention to herself as they worked through the samples. Her brows were raised as she subtly checked out James and Anara: there was an emotion - something - coming off of them besides irritation but she didn't want to pull it in and examine it very closely. Instead, she closely examined a sample she was about to label. "Lieutenant, this is organic matter surrounding ... it looks like there's something under this skin...," she picked up an instrument and pulled a set of charred wires from the body part.
James decided that he wasn't going to take that "When i have i not been doing my work Chief?" he asks as he moved over to Reva with a tricorder to scan the organic matter while she removed it from metal and wires. "Oh and you know as well as i do that i am one of the best science officers on this ship and i have far more experience then most Chief and Deputy Chiefs" he looked back over his shoulder at her and poked his tongue out. It was almost to much fun teasing her.
Anara laughed, "Are you aware of your actions, Lt. (jg) Ravenor? You just moved out of line during the process of storage. At that moment, you were not doing your work. I don't care what your experience is if it doesn't come with a proper work ethic." She spoke with a firm and cold voice. She opened a drawer and removed a petri dish. She placed it in front of him, "Place the sample inside."
He did as asked unable to find a problem with what she just said, apart from "Well since you have come over here as well to give me that" he nodded at the petri dish "you to are now out of line so i guess the only one doing their job is Reva here" he waited for the reply he knew was coming.
Reva's brows shot up. Usually, she was the one challenging authority.
Anara gave a low groan as she moved back to her computer and began focusing on the screen. She began pressing a series of buttons, "I don't understand why you're being difficult, but it is something I will handle in private. Perhaps we can have that conversation in front of the Captain."
James also returned to his station but passed Anara as he did. He stopped for a moment and whispered in her ear "Dinner, tonight and i will be a good science officer" he said waiting just long enough for her reply.
Anara shook visibly when he whispered in her ear. There was apart of her that knew having dinner with him would not be advised, but there was another part of her that couldn't help but feel tempted. She decided in her mind that it would be a meeting, not a date and that it would be a good opportunity for her to place her boundaries before him and be given the consequences for stepping over the.
"Fine," she said shortly. She turned to the science officers, "Alright, let's finish these last few specimen's, so that we can get working on the next project." She began directing certain officers, pointing out the specimens that were going to medical and those that were heading straight to storage. The work continued like that for the next hour until every item was accounted for.
Well to say that James was shocked would have been a massive under statement, he continued his duties quietly just as he had said he would and pondered where he was going to take her. He knew a place that he enjoyed, his home city but he was unsure if she would like it. There was only one way to find out he guessed.
Pausing for just a moment, Reva looked at the two officers before placing the cleaned wires and another piece of equipment in a side box. There was a definite undercurrent there that had Reva wishing the two would just go off, get a room and get it over with. Sometimes, adults acted more like children, particularly when lust was in the air. She cringed and wondered whether she was the cause...
