Mission: M2: Aggressive Negotiations
Location: Mari's Quarters

Elek walked thoughtfully down the corridor to Mari's quarters.

After leaving the lounge the other evening, they'd had a very ... eventful evening, and he was looking forward to seeing her again, but he was worried about Mari's feelings. He knew she had issues with his age being so much more than hers, although she had agreed to try and see past that. He had know people in the past who had tried to, but not been able to.

Then again, he reminded himself, he'd known people who *had* been able to see past it. He hoped Mari would be one of them.
He pressed the door chime.

It took several moments, but when the door opened, Mari herself was standing on the other side. When she saw who was standing there, her face lit up and she exclaimed, "Termin!" rolling the 'r' in his name as she pulled him inside and framed his face with her hands, kissing him as the door closed. "How have you been?" she asked.

Elek smiled. "Well, I'm better now," he replied, and kissed her back, his hands resting on her hips.

After a moment, he broke off and stared at her for a moment, taking in her beauty.

He cleared his throat. "Sorry I didn't come and see you after the diplomatic function last night - it ended late, and I needed to file a report of the event."

Shrugging it off dismissively, she said, "No importa. I was hoping you would come by but I was not devastated that you did not. How did it go?" she asked, taking his hand and leading him to the couch where they could sit and talk more comfortably.

Elek sighed. "I doubt it'll be remembered in the top ten of diplomatic dinners, put it that way. Both the captain and the ambassador have a lot of underlying issues that they don't seem able to completely put away." He shrugged. "Who knows, there's always things locked away in our past. I guess we're shaped by them more than we realise."

"Hmmm...there are always things in the past that come out to haunt us at the most inopportune times," Mari said sagely.

He gave Mari's hand a squeeze. "And you?" he said, sitting up. "What have you been doing?"

"Trying to get to know my crew and what it is exactly that science does," Mari grinned, "It's been...educational."

Elek laughed. "From a woman who confesses that she doesn't know a lot about science, that's got to be a good thing. What are the staff like?"

Cocking her head to one side thoughtfully, her long hair streaming back over her shoulder, she said, "Interesante. Somehow I've managed to get another former XO in my department."

Eyebrows firmly raised, Elek gave an intrigued murmur. "What is it with XO's and the Science Department?"

"No se," came Mari's reply, "Maybe it's where they send the ones they think messed up because it's nice and quiet there?"

He shrugged. "Well, as long as she knows that *you're* the boss, then I'm happy with that."

Grinning, Mari cooed at him, touching her fingers to his face, "Si, Amor. I'm sure she knows that."

Elek reached up and held her fingers. He stared at her, looking into her eyes. "You're gorgeous," he whispered.

Her heart flipped and her namesake seemed to be fluttering in her stomach as she breathed, "No me digas. You don't say..." her dark eyes igniting with a slowly smoldering spark of passion as they held his.

"I do say," he said, whispering back.

He reached out and traced a finger down the line of Mari's cheek, admiring her delicate bone structure. "I could stare at you all day."

Elek knew how corny that could sound, but didn't care - he meant it, and that was all that mattered.

"Is stare all that you would do, Señor?" Mari asked huskily, her eyes never leaving his.

He leaned forward and kissed her, hard, his hand moving behind her head.

"I don't want to talk any more," he whispered.

She kissed him in return, her hands coming to his face to frame it, their lips soft against each other as their tongues entwined together. Breathily, she said against his lips, "Neither do I."
