Personal History		Lai was born 2356 on a frontier world. His father was a freighter captain who would bring supplies to and from the colony. He grew up learning how to work with his hands and was especially fond of taking things apart. After he graduated from school he went into college for a degree in structural engineering. He tried working as a Structural engineer for some years but by the time he was 28 he decided that he wanted more in life and enrolled in Starfleet Academy. He graduated 4 years later as an Ensign and was assigned to the USS Heracles as an Engineering Officer. He served the Heracles for 2 years before he was transferred to the USS Pericles. Another three years and he was transferred to the USS Damocles. He spent three years as the Assistant Chief Engineering Officer on the Damocles before being offered the Chief Engineering Officer spot on the USS Phoenix.
