Hobbies & Interests Korra loves sailing more than any other activity. Anyone brave enough to ride with her in a boat is in for a wild and bumpy ride.

She practices martial arts and yoga for recreation, stress relief, and to stay in shape. She loves reading and is a published author. Korra has written both novels and graphic novels like comic books and manga. She often sketches while people are talking to her.

Korra is an amateur smith. Though she used her talents mostly to make repair parts and custom decorations for her boat, she has also crafted jewelry, weapons, or emblems.

Personal History Korra was born on the tide and grew up on the ocean. She began learning how to sail from a young age, and competed in races as a teenager. She vividly remembered Breen attacks on Earth during the Dominion War, and the threat of changeling infiltrators. As she grew older, she became determined to make sure her friends and family did not have to live through that kind of terror again. Her parents weren't completely comfortable with her joining the Marine Corps, but supported her decision and took pride in her commitment to keep people safe.

Korra performed well in the academic aspects of officer training, but her mellow demeanor caused her to spend a lot of quality time with her DI performing eight-counts. She started her career commanding a platoon with the 375th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Hathcock in its hunt for Maquis remnants near the DMZ. Her first taste of battle was a complete failure. Her platoon took heavy losses due to her over-analyzing her situation and her failure to effectively use the terrain to her advantage.

She did not fair much better in her next two engagements, and her mentoring officer relieved her of command in the middle of both. Frustrated and humiliated, Korra spent the next several weeks obsessing over her mistakes and how to correct them. She found inspiration in the unparalleled adaptability of the Borg. The more she studied, the more she embraced flexibility, tactical misdirection, and psychological warfare. During this time, she dated an engineer named Jacob Volkner and eventually became pregnant with fraternal twins. Jakob was electrocuted while repairing a damaged console before she even found out. Korra never mentioned the child to his family.

Her introspection and study paid off in a skirmish on Marva II. Her platoon fended off an uprising on Marva II. She was able to set the militia up for a crushing ambush. The strategic shock of the militia's utter defeat destroyed any fighting spirit its members had and pressured its organizers to abandon operations on Marva II.

Though it was a huge success, it was too little too late for Korra's reputation with the 375th MEU. Even with the victory, her Marines had no confidence in her as a leader. Korra took time off due to her pregnancy. After Rikku was born, she transferred to the 268th MEU of the USS Sovereign and assumed command of a new platoon. Over the course of the next several years, Korra and her platoon were pit against her source of tactical inspiration: the Borg. Over the years, she continued to hone her ability to analyze and customize her strategies to fit specific enemies.

Korra retained the respect and confidence of her Marines and built a reputation for her tactical prowess, though some of her tactics did not sit well with her superiors. Her use of guerilla tactics often led to passionate lectures from her superiors about how the Federation doesn't sneak around.
